Cynthia Davis
6th Grade Teacher

Cynthia Davis has been working in education for the last seventeen years. She holds a Master's in Education with an Emphasis in Teaching from Mills College in Oakland; her Master's thesis was in teaching communication and conflict resolution skills to adolescents.

Her undergraduate studies, at the Evergreen State College in Washington State, were in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Community Development. Evergreen is a non-traditional college with an emphasis in interdisciplinary studies and experiential education.

While there, Cynthia completed an internship in community development on the Makah Indian Reservation, and traveled around the circumference of the U.S. on an independent-study speaking tour promoting community service.

Cynthia taught in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) for two years just after their anti-Communist revolution, before returning to the U.S. to complete her teaching credential. The Crow Indian Reservation was her next full-time assignment, where she spent two years teaching English in grades nine through twelve.

Returning to California, Cynthia led an interdisciplinary humanities class for seventh graders in Union City. She worked two years as Educator for a youth non-profit organization called Diversity Dance Workshop which encouraged youth to work against racism and promote positive social change. Cynthia also served two years at a small, developmental junior high school outside Seattle as an English and Social Studies teacher.

Other assignments have found Ms. Davis assistant-teaching a course on homelessness at Stanford, tutoring students from kindergarten through adult, teaching a class of first through third graders, and designing and instructing at an international service camp for youth.
