Robbie Torney
K/1 Teacher

Robbie Torney grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He studied political theory as an undergraduate at Stanford University, focusing on children’s rights and theories of school choice. Robbie received his Master’s degree in education and a multiple-subject teaching credential from the Stanford Teacher Education Program.

As a K/1 teacher, Robbie strives to give his students the skills and opportunities they need to be able citizens and learners, skills and opportunities that will empower his students to think for themselves and make fundamental choices about their lives. This includes helping students reach developmentally-appropriate key understandings, giving students the space and support to ask their own questions and pursue their own interests, and building a community of learners that supports and challenges every student to reach his or her potential.

Robbie is excited to bring his experiences working in K/1 and K/1/2 multiage classrooms in East Palo Alto and Redwood City to the learning community at Discovery Charter School. He is looking forward to collaborating with his students, students’ parents, and colleagues to develop and advance a meaningful learning agenda.
