4th and/or 5th Grade Teacher (loops with class)
Jeff Tuell, pronounced "tool", graduated with honors and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science with emphasis in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Since graduating, he has had specialized training for integrating technology in the classroom, Balanced Literacy and Math, and Positive Behavior Support in the Classroom.
Jeff joined our Discovery staff for our inaugural year 06/07 and currently serves on our staff leadership team in 08/09. Prior to joining Discovery, Jeff taught seven years at Cottonwood Plains Elementary in Loveland, Colorado.
Along with teaching 3rd grade, Jeff was actively involved with the school technology committee, safety and belonging committee, creative and critical thinking committee, and he initiated and developed the PRIDE, Cottonwood’s first ever student leadership organization which grew to 48 4th and 5th grader leaders the past year.
Jeff is a trained teacher mentor, a technology coach, and acted as a Lead Teacher when the school principal was away. Jeff enjoys volunteering as an elementary and middle school basketball coach.
The philosophy of Discovery Charter School and Jeff’s teaching style is a perfect match. Cooperative learning, hands–on activities, and balanced literacy and math programs are common practices in Jeff’s room. Add his proactive behavior modification approach, known as "Tuell–Time," and you have a winning combination that fosters success for his students.
“I do my best to give my students a good balance of independent think and work time, as well as a variety of opportunities to socialize and learn with others – teamwork. I am a hands–on learner, therefore I provide as many hands–on and “real–life” lessons as possible. My goal is to make their learning a fun, yet structured experience, where they gain ownership over their learning needs."
