Stephen A. Fiss
Strategic Advisor
|
Stephen Fiss has nearly four decades of educational experience. Most recently he served as Superintendent of Scotts Valley Unified School District as well as Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Educational Leadership at San Jose State University. His educational career started as a K-8 classroom teacher, and his administrative experience spans across all educational levels.
His experiences as a superintendent, assistant superintendent and teacher have provided him with a very broad base of experiences which include: establishing a positive working relationship with Board of Trustees, staff and community; completing a successful unification and opening up a new high school (in Scotts Valley), serving as chief negotiator, and implementing a district vision through strategic planning and stakeholder involvement. Mr. Fiss has established an educational foundation, pursued alternative funding sources for his districts and implemented technology plans.
Additionally he has improved the districts he has served in the areas of curriculum, instruction and staff development, and by developing/implementing facility master plans. Mr. Fiss has a strong proven track record as a sound fiscal planner. He has recruited, hired, mentored, and evaluated staff including implementing and monitoring NCLB requirements.
He has had a history of involving parents, students and community in ongoing decision-making activities of his districts through such actions as establishing a Legislative Action Committee, Budget Advisory Committee and Facilities Master Plan Committee.
Throughout Mr. Fiss's career he has relied on his integrity, honesty and dedication to communicate effectively and establish positive relationships with parents, staff, board members, business and community representatives.
Parental and community involvement have been a consistent and vital component on his views of education. He believes that students are entitled to educational experiences that communicate high expectations for achievement and actively involve them in the learning process. The goal for students must be to develop into life long learners, able to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
