The summer events below are listed in order by date. Some listed events are grade-level specific and others are "all school" (for everyone). You are welcome to attend any event in which your family is interested. We recommend that you target your children’s grade level events, if you are new to Discovery.

Water Play the Morning Away (Hosted by grades K & 1)

10:30am-12:00pm - Please join your friends (old and new) for some fun in the sun. Let’s play in the water and sand. This is a great way to meet new friends, if you are starting kindergarten in the fall or want to get a jump on some play dates (bathing suit, towel, water shoes and sunscreen recommended).

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (All School)

12:05pm - Come out and view Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince with your friends from Discovery.

Fun at Fisher (Hosted by grades 2 and 3)

10:30am - 12:00pm - Come run through the cool water features, bring your bike or scooter, bring your bucket and shovel for sand box play, or run around in one of two playgrounds.

Whatever you decide, come and have some great fun with the second and third graders at Jack Fisher Park (bathing suit, towel, water shoes and sunscreen recommended).

6:30pm - 8:30pm - Bring your buckets, water balloons and water guns for another summer of organized chaos (dress to get wet and play).

Meet us on the "water play side" of John D. Morgan Park in the grass area (between the baseball diamond and parking lot). Please wear your tie-dye t-shirts, if you have them.

Capitola (Hosted by grades 4 and 5)

4:00pm - Come and spend an awsome afternoon on beautiful Capitola Beach! Bring items for fun in the sun, but don’t forget jackets and blankets (in case it gets breezy!)

Parking: There are no entrance fees to use the beach. You can pay/park at the meters in downtown (many have a two-hour limit) or you can park for free in the visitor's lot above the railroad tracks on Monterey Ave.

Location: Capitola Beach is along the waterfront in downtown Capitola. Exit CA 1 at Soquel Ave. or 41st and drive toward the ocean, following the signs toward downtown Capitola.

5:00pm - 9:30pm - Join us for the third summer attending Shakespeare plays in the park. This summer it is "A Comedy of Errors".

In this dizzying comedy of mistaken identity, Antipholus and his servant Dromio journey from their hometown of Syracuse in search of their long-lost twin brothers. Their arrival in the foreign city of Ephesus sets off a farcical chain of mishaps as the twins are mistaken for each other, resulting in a climax of comedic chaos only Shakespeare could devise. Free Shakespeare in the park 2009 will be a colorful carnival, a circus-inspired mixture of juggling, slapstick and visual and verbal puns. Enjoy and madness and romance of Comedy of Errors.

Bring a picnic dinner, lawn blankets/chairs, jackets and enjoy a cool evening under the stars.

Please arrive between 5/5:30pm to reserve your spot on the lawn. The show starts at 7:00pm and runs after dark until 9:30pm.

6:00pm - 7:30pm - Middle school team building, middle school issues, middle school activities and more - yes it is all about middle school!

From 6:00pm - 7:00pm the students will be participating in activities, with their new teacher, in the classroom. Followed by a "middle school community mixer". All middle school parents are invited to attend.

5:00pm - 9:30pm - If you were not able to join us in Cupertino on August 18th, then come join us at another Shakespeare in the Park with "As You Like It".

Set against the romantic background of Regency England, Shady Shakespeare takes you on a journey of this classic pastoral comedy through the eyes of a young Jane Austen. All the world is indeed a stage as Jane opens a music box that manifests into a world of feuding brothers, banished dukes and pining lovers. Come watch as Jane follows one of Shakespeare's most notable heroines, Rosalind, wit and woe her way to a perfect Fairytale ending!
