Parent Academy 101

This is the first in a series of required parent meetings in preparation for your successful participation in the school program. Information presented applies to all grade levels.

Ropes Course Begins
Grades 6-8  are scheduled for some amazing team and confidence building activities in the Santa Cruz Redwoods. Class Field Trip Coordinators will be forwarding information directly.

Science Camp 5th grade
Secluded among coastal redwoods just inland from the shores of Monterey Bay, Monte Toyon is an inviting place for our 5th graders to learn about the field studies, biology, ecology, hiking, team building.

Everyone is invited to attend our Winter Concert with performances by our very talented student band, orchestra and choirs. What an enjoyable way to spend an evening. Location & time TBD.

The summer events below are listed in order by date. Some listed events are grade level specific and others are school wide (for everyone).  Please know that you are welcome to attend any event your family is interested in. We recommend that if you are new to Discovery that you target your children’s grade level events.

June 16 Monday

Bike, Hike or Play  (Hosted by grades 2 & 3)

Bring a picnic lunch and meet us at Vasona Lake County Park - Children’s Playground at 11am for a fun time and variety of activities to choose from.  Wear and look for Discovery (Red & Gold) tie dye t-shirts.
Fun for all ages!

Vasona park is located at 333 Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos. (Access individual park information on that site). There is a fee for cars to enter the park and tickets need to be purchased to ride the train.

June 24 Tuesday

It’s a Bubble Bonanza! (Hosted by grades K & 1)

Jack Fisher Park 10am.  Come prepared to get wet and have fun with our bubble themed play date.  Jack Fisher Park is located on the corner of Abbott & Pollard in Campbell.

Picnic & Music at Shoup Park (All School)

Shoup Park 11:30am. Bring a picnic lunch and something to share. Explore the creek, play on the playground, and enjoy the Ye Olde Town Band at 1:30pm

Parking is tight so arrange carpooling or drop off and street park. Tables and chairs encouraged.  Shoup Park is located 400 University Ave Los Altos, CA 94022 off of Foothill Expressway. (650) 947-2790

Miniature Golf and Water slides (Hosted by grades 6,7 & 8)

Let’s meet at Golfland on Wednesday, July 2 for mini golf and waterslides!
Where: Golfland, 976 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose 95123
When: Wednesday, July 2 from 11:00-2:00p.m.
Cost: $7.99 for golf, $7.99 for waterslides or a combo pass for $13.99 (cash or credit, no checks)

July 10 Thursday

Park Day & Dessert (Hosted by grades 4 & 5)

Join us at John D.Morgan Park for an early evening play extravaganza. If the night is warm we would like to recommend you bring water guns & water balloons for some water play. When we are soaked we will move over to the field on play kickball. 

7-9 pm. Please bring your own drinks and a dessert to share.  Most important don’t forget water balloons and a water guns. Meet us on the water play/large baseball diamond side of the park. Wear your tie dye t-shirt!

July 16 Wednesday

Pool Adventure  (Hosted by grades K& 1)

Come for an aquatic adventure at Los Ranchitos Cabana Club. Watch out for all The aqua life. $5.00 per person entrance fee.  For directions. More information as event date becomes closer.

July 20 Sunday Picnic & Shakespeare in the Park (Hosted by grades 6, 7 & 8)

Time: 6:00-9:00pm Place:  Memorial Park Amphitheater, Cupertino
(Across from De Anza College at Stevens Creek Blvd, & Mary Avenue)

Arrive wearing Discovery’s unique yellow, red & gold tie dye t-shirts. We dine prior to the event at 6pm. Performance begins at 7pm. Bring a picnic dinner, blankets and lawn chairs to sit, visit, & watch the San Francisco Shakespeare Company perform “Pericles”

See Prince Pericles forced to flee for his life as a young man embarks on an epic journey that leads him from a tragic shipwreck to a joyful marriage and from the loss of his beloved daughter to a surprising reunion.  Along the way he encounters many memorable characters, from clownish fishermen to dancing suitors to roguish pirates! Ultimately good triumphs over evil, jealousy and vice are punished, and faithfulness and virtue are rewarded. (Just like in real life!)

Summer Concert – The Garage Band  (Hosted by Grades 2 & 3)

Bring a picnic dinner and join us at the Orchard City Green for Campbell’s 2008 Summer Concert Series the Orchard City Green for Campbell's 2008 Summer Concert Series, featuring The Garage Band! Performing rock, pop, R&B, and Motown around Northern California, The Garage Band is known for its polish and professionalism.  All this music and fun is free!

Wear your tie dye. Don’t forget a blanket for the lawn and some jackets in case it gets cool.

Location: Orchard City Green – Civic Center Dr. at Central St. 6:30pm – 8:00pm For more info & map.
