Toni comes to teaching as a second career. She graduated from San Jose State University’s College of Education in 2008. She participated in a dual credential/ Master’s program at the Critical Research Academy, specializing in curriculum and issues of social justice.  She has worked at Discovery for seven years, specializing in middle school instruction. She was recently recognized as a 2015-16 Hero of the Classroom by the San Francisco 49ers and Symetra.

Toni did her student teaching at Barron Park Elementary in Palo Alto Unified and worked as a long-term substitute in the Santa Clara Unified School District over the past year. Toni has a particular interest in mild to moderate learning disabilities and researched teacher accommodations for children with writing disabilities in the mainstream classroom as part of her Master’s curriculum.

Prior to teaching, Toni was an active parent volunteer at her children’s school.  In working in the classroom, it became clear that working with kids was far more rewarding than her previous career as a family law attorney. As her kids have grown, the desire to make a difference in the classroom became too persistent to ignore.

Toni received her undergraduate education at Georgetown University, majoring in Government with a minor in English. She attended law school at University of California’s Hastings College of the Law.

She and her family enjoy movies, traveling and hiking, and reading together.
