Miki Walker completed her BA in Liberal Studies and Art History at Santa Clara University, and received her Multiple Subject Credential with an Early Childhood emphasis from San Francisco State University in 2001. She worked in various San Francisco schools throughout her credential work ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade, and finished her program student teaching in San Mateo in a 2nd/3rd grade classroom. Her first teaching years were in San Carlos School District as a 1st grade teacher.
Since starting her teaching career, Miki has always sought out educational environments that support students as active learners in authentic learning contexts and strives to reflect this in her classroom community. In 2010, Miki had the opportunity to begin her journey learning about the Reggio Emilia approach and implementing aspects of it into an elementary setting. Through this experience, Miki has grown to appreciate the importance of reflective teaching and has found it to be integral in growing professionally.
Miki grew up in the Bay Area and attended Argonaut Elementary, Redwood Middle School, and Saratoga High School. After spending a few years living in England and starting her family abroad, she has enjoyed the move back to the Bay Area.
